Lisacul Cup

On the 1^st of June 2011, the Lisacul NS football team travelled to Tavrane hoping to bring the Lisacul cup home.  We had never won it before and we were very determined to win. Our first match was against Kilkelly. We didn't have any trouble keeping our scores coming with subs like Darragh Neary coming on and scoring a goal and a point! We won that match with a score of 6-10 to 2-0.

The Lisacul girls then had a challenge match against the Tavrane girls and won with a score of 3-6 to 2-3.

It was at this point that we started to get serious. It was Lisacul vs Tavrane. Tavrane were the team to beat. they were in the Mayo county finals and we knew that it was going to be a tough game.  The starting team was as follows. In goals was Eoghan Walsh who played a blinder of a game, saving every single shot made on him. (of which there were many!) He got man of the match.  In backs were Ronan Donney and Jarlath Lavin. Ronan played a magnificent game, gaining possession of the ball every time and kicking it down the whole pitch into the forwards. Jarlath also played extremely well, he won several frees and set up a few goals as well as running the length of the pitch to take a few score chances himself!

Moving up to midfield was Ciaran Lavin who caught all the kick-outs and scored all of his forty-fives, not to mention ploughing through the othe teams defence and scoring points left, right and centre.  Ciarán Walsh was also playing midfield after Matthew Webb, our brilliant sprinter picked up a thumb injury.  Ciarán scored some outstanding goals and points throughout the game. Ciarán Dolan had a savage match scoring numerous goals and points and setting up several others.  Matthew Webb moved up to forwards and bravely played on after his injury.  A few minutes into the second half he was replaced by Ciarán Walsh who was moved back to forwards and Meaveen Greene came on in midfield.  She brought the score up another point in the dying minutes of the game.

The final score was 2-9 to 1-3.  Tom Byrne, the captain on the day, lifted the cup after the match and that made our day! We beeped and cheered all the way home.

Cumann na mBunscoil County Quarter Finals

On Monday the 30th of May 2011, ?Ms. Donovan brought the Lisacul boys team to Castlerea to battle it out with Creggs N.S in the county quarter-finals.  The team that represented the school was Tom Byrne in goals, Jarlath Lavin in right back, Ronan Dooney in full back, Eoghan Walsh in left back, Ciaran Lavin and Matthew Webb in midfield, Lee Corrigan in left forward, Ciaran Walsh in full forward and finally Ciaran Dolan in right forward. Subs were Rebecca Maxwell, Meaveen Greene and Darragh Neary.

Creggs started out well winning possession of the first ball but it wasn't long before Lisacul were dominating the game with our forwards scoring some fine scores. Creggs scored some easy goals but Lisacul weren't going to give in that easily. At the end of the first half Lisacul were ahead by seven points.  In the second half we scored some lovely goals and Creggs did the same, for a while it looked like we were losing our advantage. Creggs were coming back but some super forty-fives from Ciaran Lavin put us firmly in the lead.

At the end of the game the score was 9-12 to 9-3

Group Final Photos

Cumann na mBunscoil Group Final

On the 25th of May 2011 the Lisacul boys football team had an excellent victory over Tarmon NS. The game was played in O' Rourke Park, Castlerea,  where heavy showers and a strong breeze made playing conditions difficult.  However, it didn't affect the Lisacul teams performance.

In goals was Tom Byrne who had a brilliant game making several impressive saves.  At right back was Eoghan Walsh but he was soon moved to full forward where he scored and set up several scores.  At full back was the captain, Ronan Dooney, who had an excellent and rock solid game. He saved a goal on the line at an important point in the game.  At left back was Jarlath Lavin who played a crucial part in our team, winning frees when we were under immense pressure.

With the defense covered we'll now take a look further up the field.  In midfield was Matthew Webb, marking who was probably Tarmon's best player.  Matthew set up several goals and was partnered by Ciarán Lavin.  He won all the balls in and around midfield.  He distributed the ball well.  Ciarán Walsh was in corner forward and he scored a truckload of goals and won a lot of crucial balls.  He passed the ball generously to everyone.  Lee started the match in full forward but later switched with Eoghan as Meaveen replaced him in backs.  Ciarán Dolan was the other corner forward andhe scored two points. He did very well.

The subs were Darragh, Meaveen and Rebecca and they all played well when they came on.  Meaveen and Rebecca came on in backs.  Darragh came on in forwards and almost scored a goal. We had excellent support at the match as the rest of the senior room and the whole middle room came.  Happy birthday to the captain Ronan Dooney, he is now thirteen!  The team, the supporters and all the teachers sang happy birthday to him on the pitch at the end of the match.

Teh half-time score was 1-2 to 0-2 points.  The final score was 7-4 to 3-3.  The scorers were Ciarán Lavin 0-1, Ciarán Dolan 0-2, Ciarán Walsh 4-0, Eoghan Walsh 3-1.  Hard luck to Tarmon!

Grow garden, grow!

We have been hard at work recently in the school gardens, planting, potting and experimenting!! The results are clear to be seen! We have beautiful window boxes blooming with violas, pansies and heathers. Nasturtiums, poppies, and wildflower seeds have been sown along the side of the school. We hope to see lots of wildlife outside our classroom windows because of our beautiful flowers!
We also grew cress in the classrooms! We found out that cress can grow pretty much anywhere!! Our cress only took one week to grow and when it was ready....We ATE it!!! Yum yum!

World Record Attempt!

Good luck to the four lucky 6th class children who are participating in a world record attempt at the largest group of people knitting together! This event takes place during the Easter holidays. We hope they do very well!
